Why Should I Give

As fellow members of St. George’s Church, we are partners together in the work of the gospel. Our ministries and our outreach programmes are entirely funded by freewill offerings. An important practical aspect of our partnership involves us all in sharing our financial resources and/or our time in support of God’s work.

Giving and stewardship covers more than money. It includes time and how we use the skills and talents that God has given us.

  •     Why do we give?
  •     How should we give?
  •     Planning our giving prayerfully
  •     Donating our time
  •     Corporate stewardship
  •     Investing in mission and ministry
  •     Planned giving

We can identify a number of principles in the Bible which help us to see our responsibility and opportunity from God’s perspective

We give because God gave so freely to us – God, being rich in mercy, gave His only Son for us. We can never repay Him, but in gratitude we can give sacrificially and generously.

All that we have comes from God – As God’s people, we are responsible for supporting His work with the resources He has entrusted to us. This work includes all the various ministries of the church to which we belong.

The church to which we belong has a claim on our support – Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor” Galatians 6:6; “…those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel” (1 Corinthians 9:14)

Generous giving brings its own rewards – Those who receive the gift will be grateful to God; God supplies the resources to enable His people to go on giving; and others are encouraged when they see the fruits of generosity (2 Corinthians 9:6)

Giving to God’s work is an investment that yields eternal dividends – We share in the joy of knowing that our gifts supply the resources needed to reach people with the gospel, to nurture them in their faith, and build up God’s people to maturity.
